How To Stop Letting Comparison Affect Your Confidence and Self Improvement

How To Stop Letting Comparison Affect Your Confidence and Self Improvement

As soon as we open our eyes in the morning we are given hundreds of opportunities to compare ourselves. As we scroll our phones we naturally judge ourselves and our lives against others. This habit can severely impact our self-esteem and confidence. But what if we could transform comparison into a tool for self-improvement and create magnetic confidence? The rituals below will help you boost self-esteem, overcome comparison, and embrace your unique journey.

Comparing ourselves to others is one of the fastest ways to disconnect from our Innermost selves and to stunt our self improvement.

Thankfully, we all have the ability to transform our attitude and our perception. We can choose to use comparison to propel us forward, to cultivate a deeper understanding of ourselves and to inspire us as we move towards our dreams.

The rituals below have helped me to become more self aware when I fall into the trap of comparing myself to others. They have also allowed me to transform the way I view comparison, so that rather than dragging me down, I am reminded of what is real, what I have to offer and how comparison can inspire me towards more fulfilment and connection. I hope they can do the same for you.

  • Remind yourself that you are comparing your behind the scenes to someone else’s highlight reel.
  • We often forget that what we see online is only 1% of someone's life. We see the airbrushed, constructed content. A lot of what we see on social media is content created to sell something so it’s crafted in a way that looks perfect. Always remind yourself that what you see online is never the full picture, it isn’t a reflection of a person's entire reality. To judge yourself against an unrealistic standard is setting yourself up for a poor self image, low self esteem and a deep lack of confidence. Keep your perspective as you scroll and remind yourself of what is real.

  • Spend less time comparing yourself to others and more time finding your super power.
  • We spend so much of our time talking about, watching and listening to what others are doing. As we look around and outside of ourselves, we lose our focus on our own growth, gifts and potential. Everybody has their own unique talents and gifts. Spend your time discovering yours. “More than half of young girls wish they were someone else”. This statistic breaks my heart. Remind yourself that you have a gift to share with the world. There is something so special within you, something only unique to you. Much like you can’t compare the beauty of a flower, you can not compare yourself to any other. Lean into becoming more of yourself. Your authenticity and individuality is your superpower, harness it to cultivate inner confidence and success.

  • Success leaves clues.
  • I have learnt to use feelings of comparison and jealousy as a guide. Usually when we feel a sense of jealousy, someone is reflecting back to us our own unfulfilled potential. They are showing us something that we want to do, a quality we want to hold or an experience we wish to have. Rather than seeing another person’s success and feeling let down, feel inspired. Know that another person’s success means success is possible for you. See these people as markers of possibility, expanding your mind to see what is possible and creating a roadmap to show you the way. Use these role models as guides by gathering an understanding of their journeys, their habits and what they did to accomplish what it is you are inspired by. Follow their lead, harness your individuality and use their success as proof that the same success is also possible for you.

I hope these rituals allow you to put comparison into perspective. When we take responsibility for how we feel and cultivate an empowering mindset, we give ourselves the opportunity to create success, confidence and abundance. Stay in your own lane whilst being inspired by the qualities, gifts and achievements of the people around you. We are all enough as we are and we all have something unique to offer the world. The more each of us remind ourselves of this truth, the more magnetic we will become.
